Cardio, flexibility, and strength training for happy hour? You bet! We hit this cardio dance class on New York's Upper East Side for its full body burn and hoping to catch a glimpse of AKT fans Kelly Ripa, Shakira or Sarah Jessica Parker. While we didn't spot any of them shaking their hips in the 75° heated studio, we had a blast anyway.
The class warm-up series started with jumping jacks and planks before it ramped up to full-out dance routines. It felt like we were about to audition for a new hip-hop video, but with a super friendly instructor giving hands-on adjustments so we could maintain perfect alignment while we twirled around the room. Pushing really hard at 5-minute intervals and then stopping to stretch or do a free-weight series made the 45 minutes of intense heat (someone actually left mid-class to change into dry clothes) worth it. The 15-minute cool down, complete with drawn shades and a disco ball, doubles as a strength training series at the ballet barre.
Lockers, a sitting area, fruit-infused water, and showers (which you'll need after this intense sweat) all make for a slick, modern design. Add in multiple studios, wellness treatment rooms, and juice bar you may just want to come and hang out.
