How do I get there?
Fly into/out of Liberia airport (LIR) in Costa Rica. Non-stop flights from LAX are available on Alaska and Southwest Airlines on the west coast and non-stop flights from Newark and JFK are available on the east coast. Round-trip airfare for an economy-class ticket varies. We suggest setting an alert for the ticket you want so you can keep an eye on the price, as tickets can range from $500 - $1,000.
*DO NOT book your flight prior to contacting Pravassa to confirm the vacation is happening.
Check-in begins at 4pm on the start date of our tour. Designated round-trip airport shuttle transfers from Liberia are included in your package so please make sure Pravassa has your flight itinerary. Please note our resort is 2.5 hours from the airport with part of the journey down an unpaved bumpy road. On arrival day, the schedule will begin with our welcome dinner followed by an open gathering. We suggest packing some snacks to tide you over as there are very limited food options in the Liberia airport for lunch.
Depending on your departure flight schedule, you will either get a breakfast box to eat for early morning departures or you can join us for a sunrise meditation and final breakfast on property. Our group airport shuttle departure will leave around 9am.
In the past, some attendees have chosen to arrive a day early in Liberia due to the flight pattern. If you plan to do this, please let us know and we can suggest a hotel near the airport.
- The national language is Spanish, but the area of Nosara is teeming with expats so everyone speaks English.
- Local currency is Colon, but everyone takes US dollars. Cash is good for small purchases such as snacks, taxis, tips, and a cerveza. We suggest bringing $100 USD in denominations of $20 or less. Credit cards should only be used for extras on your hotel bill. Here's a sample of what you expect to spend:
- Coffee $2
- Beer $3
- Group Surf Lesson $45
- Group Horseback Riding Tour $55
- Call your credit card companies before you leave home and inform them of your trip. There's nothing worse than being stuck overseas with no access to money! Visa or MasterCard are the preferred method of payment. Keep in mind some cards charge high international exchange fees.
- Taxes & Service charges are included in your stay.
- Electricity and outlets in Costa Rica are the same as in the US so no need to bring anything extra.
- Drinking filtered and bottled water is your best bet to stay healthy. Our property in Nosara offers filtered water so bring your refillable bottle with you. You can purchase bottled water at the hotel or at the local store.
- We request you only travel with natural shampoo, conditioner, soap, and laundry detergent. Our eco-friendly property provides shampoo & conditioner for you and will request you stop using yours if it is not natural.
- Costa Rica is on Central Standard Time.
No visas are needed for North American travelers. All travelers passports MUST be valid for 6 months after date of entry into Costa Rica. Please make sure to check your passport at least two months before your departure so you have time to update it if necessary.
It's hot in the jungle so we suggest packing light. You'll receive a full packing list, but to get started you'll need: yoga clothes, a beach towel (or sarong), a bathing suit, ear plugs, a flashlight, flip flops and comfortable shoes! Please note beach towels are NOT offered at our resort we suggest bringing a sarong with you.
Please keep in mind that this is your vacation and you have the freedom to skip any wellness activity that does not resonate with you.
Barry’s Bootcamp trainers, Erica Stenz and Tommy Stracke, are leading AM and PM bootcamps designed to challenge your whole body with cardiovascular training, strength training, and motivation. Although this workout will not be your typical “Barry’s" class with dumbbells and treadmills, they will be training your body with the principals of high intensity interval training. There is a limited amount of dumbbells that will be shared within the group, but mostly the workout is designed with body weight training, resistance bands, and your yoga mat. Don’t underestimate the ability of these two trainers to kick your butt with what we've got! We are confident we'll be able to provide the best bootcamp that any wellness vacation has ever experienced before - our very first WARRIOR WEEK!
We will enjoy an off-site tour while in Nosara that will show off the amazing natural landscape. You'll have a choice of a surf lesson or a stand up paddle boarding tour through the mangroves. While you will have access to WiFi throughout your stay, we encourage you to schedule in some time for a digital detox.
Our stunning retreat center sits high in the mountains of Nosara. This means there is a 10-minute walk along a dirt road to the beach. The beach itself is natural and wild and does not offer much shade or any lounge chairs. Please come prepared with a hat, sunscreen and a sarong or towel if you want something to lay down on the sand.
Health Concerns and Medical Emergencies
We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance for this trip. Even if you're healthy, accidents can happen! Travel insurance covers things such trip delay, lost luggage, accidents and emergencies. If you're looking for a policy, we frequently refer our travelers here.
The overall health care in Costa Rica is good and many people travel here specifically for reliable, inexpensive options. English speaking doctors, dentists, and a hospital for serious conditions are all within easy reach of our property.
Stomach problems can be common when traveling. Drinking filtered and bottled water is the best way to stay healthy. We suggest you pack activated charcoal or oil of oregano to settle your stomach should it become upset.
Pickpocketing and stolen credit card numbers are the most common crimes in Costa Rica. Please leave your passport in the hotel safe and don't leave your belongings unattended if you head out to swim in the ocean. If you head out to a restaurant and pay with a credit card. Ask the waiter to let you watch them swipe your card for payment.
Climate and Weather
We'll be traveling to Costa Rica during dry season, but that doesn't mean it won't rain. We'll most likely have beautiful sunny days averaging about 95° during the day and 75° at night. A little mid-day tropical rainfall wouldn't be unexpected, but nothing that will interrupt your day. Typically the sun rises at 6am and sets at 6pm.
What will I eat?
Our included 3 meals a day are Breakfast 7 - 9:30am, Lunch 12:00 - 2pm, and Dinner 6:30 - 9pm.
The food is always fresh, local and gourmet. A curated buffet including vegetables, fish and chicken will be available. If you have special dietary requests, we'll do our best to honor them. Gluten-free and vegan options are typically available. Keep in mind due to the remote location of our resort, we can't always guarantee all requests will be available.
In addition to our set meal times, there is a cafe, which is open all day long, where you can purchase fresh smoothies and snacks. In the afternoons and evenings there is a full bar. Here's a sample of what you expect to spend: smoothie $6, cappuccino $3, cookie $3

International airfare, alcohol, cafe purchases, any additional activities such as day tours, car rental, spa treatments, and personal expenses, which are not included in the package price.
